This section follows Ranni's line from start to finish and suits level 80 to 100, though the river itself is easier than the lake. Nothing here closes behind you. The one thing to get right is the order: fetch the ring in the Grand Library before you use the coffin in the Grand Cloister.
The water builds up Scarlet Rot fast, so carry Preserving Boluses, wear the Immunizing Horn Charm or the Mottled Necklace, and don't stop in the water. Basilisks also rise from it to ambush you.
Four small islands in the lake each carry a pillar with a plate on it, and each plate raises stone platforms out of the rot. From the shore, the first pillar is southwest. The second is south of the first, along the new platforms. From there hop east, then southeast onto a big platform with a broken pillar base: the rest of the lake is measured from it. The third pillar is just southwest of that platform. The fourth is further southwest by the far walls, across open rot.
Chelona's Rise is sealed until you hit three Giant Ghostly Turtles, and the book held by the imp statue at its door starts the hunt. After you read it, don't rest or fast travel, or the turtles you haven't hit vanish until you read it again. If one won't appear, go back to the statue, read it again and ride to the spot without using a grace.
