Over the Ellac Greatbridge: Fog Rift Catacombs, the Lava Intake, the Pillar Path, the Ellac River, then Castle Ensis.

East Gravesite Plain lies across the Ellac Greatbridge from the Three-Path Cross grace. This walk clears the camps by Castle Front, the Fog Rift Catacombs, the Lava Intake, the Pillar Path and the Ellac River, and takes Castle Ensis last. Much of the river runs underneath the land the map shows, so trust the landmarks here over the map. The castle suits level 150 and up: spend your Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ash before you go in.

Gravesite Plain · Castle Front – From the Three-Path Cross grace cross the whole Ellac Greatbridge, sprinting past the soldiers on Torrent if you like. Stairs rise straight ahead, and the grace sits behind a tent at their foot, on the right. Touch it to light it.

Stay on the middle of the trail through the gravestones and the fire-pot camp, then ride through the narrow gap and the dark stretch of Shadow Militiamen. Two lit braziers flank the door, and the lift behind it drops to the grace.

Go right and down the stairs, then right again into a side tunnel, where a corpse holds the book.

Gravesite Plain · Fog Rift Catacombs – Leave the side tunnel by the other stairs, down to a ledge that looks like a dead end, and step on the spike trap as it falls. Ride it up, drop left into a tunnel, and go over the bridge and up the stairs to the Messmer Soldiers and Black Knight. From the archway beside them ride the next trap up to the high corridor in the southeast corner: the ashes are in an open coffin at its end.

Gravesite Plain · Fog Rift Catacombs – Back at the ledge over the first spike room, drop to the floor and run to the far stairs when the trap falls, down to a second lift. At the bottom cross the Imps' room and the small room past it, go right down more stairs and shelter on the left of the long spike hall. When the trap has fallen, run along the wall to the hole on your left, drop into the sewer, and in the first room go left twice: the spell is on a corpse among Yellow Fulgurblooms, with two mages guarding it.

The crossbow is on a corpse outside a tent.

Black Syrup and the Concoction: do both now

Moore hands over the Black Syrup only once you have met Thiollier, and only while both men stay where they are. The chance may end as soon as the Great Rune breaks, on the way to the Shadow Keep, so take the syrup to Thiollier straight away. It costs two fast travels. Keep the Concoction, and never drink it: a later quest needs it.

Go straight across to the path downhill, past militiamen and poison traps, to a shallow lake where a crab wades. On your left a hole opens in the cliffs: follow the cave southwest to the grace.

Scadu Altus · Fort of Reprimand – From the Elder's Hovel go northwest to the ledge above the sealed Spiritspring and strike the small rock mound to open it. Ride the spring just below on Torrent and steer north-northwest onto the cliffs, then follow them east-southeast to a second spring. Ride that one due north to the grace.

Clear the Bloodfiends there, and the mist is close by.

Gravesite Plain · Ellac River – From the Golem's stretch of river climb out of the water and ride east with the cliff on your left, to the far corner past the lightning rams. A small forager waits at the cliff edge: talk to it, and never hit it. If its head is stuck in the ground, quit and reload.
Why you can lose it
Moore's brood stops giving books if Moore dies or leaves Main Gate Cross. Kill no friendly forager, and take every book before you answer him for good.

Moore dies or leaves Main Gate Cross: you give him any answer but "I don't know", you kill him, or you kill two of his brood.

The closed gate opens from the far side. To the right of it a Messmer Soldier watches a ledge: kill him, drop down, then drop through the hole into a cavern with three dogs. Follow the cavern out and take the left path to a waterfall, jump up the rocks in it, and climb the ladder at the top. Through the room with two soldiers and out of the door, the room straight across holds the lever that opens the gate.

Moonrithyll stands at the top, outside the chapel: creep along the far right edge to get behind for a backstab.

Drop to the ledge on your immediate left, go round the cliff and climb the ladders to the roof, where a Page waits. Head northwest and drop to the platform with a corpse: it holds the sorcery.

About this guide

Expect about 230 hours over three runs, in a game where bosses take practice. This route uses no save backups. Run 1 collects everything in the base game and Shadow of the Erdtree, and takes about 170 of those hours. NG+ (about 40) and NG++ (about 20) are shorter runs for the other two endings and the other quest branches, with tougher enemies and some bosses to beat again for remembrance trades. Random drops and free-choice NPC kills never count toward 100%.
