Dragonbarrow

Over the chasm to the merchant's shack and the Divine Tower of Caelid, east to Greyoll and Fort Faroth, north past Lenne's Rise to Gurranq, then the lift to the Great-Jar and the last altar spells.

Dragonbarrow suits level 80 and up, with a weapon at +15 or better. The plateau runs west to east, then bends north to the Bestial Sanctum at its tip, where the Deathroots you have been saving finally go to Gurranq.

Calm Gurranq, never kill him

After the fourth Deathroot he turns on you, and the fight is there to be stopped, not won. If he dies you lose the step Gurranq: subdue, do not kill, along with Beast Claw, Beastclaw Greathammer, Stone of Gurranq, Gurranq's Beast Claw and his last step. Stop attacking the moment he stops, and don't hit him while he is calm.

Gurranq: subdue, do not killHidden spoiler – activate to revealQuest stepMissablePoint of no returnMinor spoiler
Location
Dragonbarrow · Bestial Sanctum – Rest at the Bestial Sanctum grace and he attacks. Hit him until he gives up, then stop at once. He can't follow you out of the doors, so ranged attacks from outside are a safe way to wear him down, and rot or poison ticks do the job too.
Why you can lose it
Kill him instead of calming him and his rewards stop here.
Point of no return
Gurranq dies before his ninth Deathroot.
Summary
Rest again when it's over and he is back in his corner.

Eleven Hearts for six spells

You now hold thirteen Dragon Hearts: Makar's one, Adula's three, three from the Glintstone Dragons by the Moonlight Altar, Greyoll's five and Greyll's one. The six spells here cost eleven of them, and two stay in your pack. A spell named after a dragon only shows once that dragon is dead. If the altar won't answer, rest at the grace, pass some time and try again.

About this guide

Expect about 230 hours over three runs, in a game where bosses take practice. This route uses no save backups. Run 1 collects everything in the base game and Shadow of the Erdtree, and takes about 170 of those hours. NG+ (about 40) and NG++ (about 20) are shorter runs for the other two endings and the other quest branches, with tougher enemies and some bosses to beat again for remembrance trades. Random drops and free-choice NPC kills never count toward 100%.
