East Mountaintops and Castle Sol

From Stargazers' Ruins over the Minor Erdtree to the Overlook, east to the lake, along the ridge and over the chain to the Hero's Grave and the Foot of the Forge, then back north to Castle Sol and the left medallion half.

The Fire Monks hold the high ground here, and the far side of the chain has enemies with very long reach, so ride past what you don't need. Carry at least four Stonesword Keys: two for the lake's cave and two for a dungeon near the end of the mountain, with one spare in case that dungeon's first door asks for more. The merchant in the Snow Valley sells three.

This section picks up at Stargazers' Ruins. The Hermit Merchant waits below the southern bridge, the narrow bridge leads on to the Minor Erdtree and the Overlook, and the lake lies east of there.

Ride up, then climb the winding stairs past one last soldier to the chest.

Don't cross either chain into the fog, here or on the ride round the cliff. This route leaves the Fire Giant for the Fire Giant and Crumbling Farum Azula section, after the Snowfield, the Haligtree and the Realm of Shadow, because beating him leads straight on to the Forge.

Latenna first

The moment the left half is yours, Latenna's request is over. Check Latenna: Slumbering Wolf's Shack in the South Liurnia section. If it's unticked, go to her shack with the right half and accept her request before you touch this chest. Miss it and you also lose Latenna: Apostate Derelict and Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone (Latenna) in the Consecrated Snowfield section.

One round of errands

These are all short trips, so do them in one go before you leave for the Rykard and West Altus Tower section.

About this guide

Expect about 230 hours over three runs, in a game where bosses take practice. This route uses no save backups. Run 1 collects everything in the base game and Shadow of the Erdtree, and takes about 170 of those hours. NG+ (about 40) and NG++ (about 20) are shorter runs for the other two endings and the other quest branches, with tougher enemies and some bosses to beat again for remembrance trades. Random drops and free-choice NPC kills never count toward 100%.
