A chase into the museum, the game's first workbench, the rooftops to the Capitol and a flooded subway.

This stretch runs from the street above the subway to the stairs that end the chapter. It holds the game's first workbench and the second shiv door, so bring a whole shiv. The first swim comes near the end. A missed pickup can be collected after the credits with Chapter Select.

The Outskirts · Museum – At the top of the ladder a truck blocks the road: kill the three Runners in the building on the left, roll the cabinet from the middle of its room against the truck, climb over and drop down. Turn around: the back of the truck is open and the note is inside. On a replay, load Downtown for this one, as the Museum start may be past it.

Have the Medical Pamphlet first. It is inside the truck behind you, and the door starts a chase.

Save parts for Combat Ready

The trophy needs one weapon fully upgraded. The Revolver is the cheapest at 155 parts and needs tool level 3, so don't spread parts thin.

The Outskirts · Museum – It stands near the large truck, on the left of the doorway out of the garage. Open it even with nothing to spend. Only the 9mm and Revolver can be upgraded this early.

Location
The Outskirts · Museum – Leave the garage and pass through the office rooms, door by door, to the room with the collapsed ceiling. Walk up the ramp it makes, hugging the back wall, then climb onto the narrow ledge on the left against the window. Shimmy to the end: it is in the display case.

Before you move the beam

Have the garage workbench opened and the Michael Kiper pendant in hand first. The beam splits the route.

Museum floors, then the beamQuest step
Location
The Outskirts · Museum – Drop back down from the ledge and climb to the second floor. Work through the rooms, crawl through the blocked doorway and use the beam, then let Tess and Ellie pass. It gives way, leaving Joel to go on alone.

Shiv Door: Museum CafeOther
Location
The Outskirts · Museum – Go through the tunnel into the rooms around the horse statue and bring down the three Clickers from behind, using the bricks lying about and keeping your shiv whole. Then go left through the doors into the cafe: the locked door is on your right as you enter. Take the supplies inside.

Open the cafe shiv door first. The staircase at the end of the corridor takes Joel on, away from these rooms.

Before you go through the window

Talk to Tess, then Ellie, before you leave this room. Tess climbs out after her talk, and following her gives up the talk with Ellie.

The Outskirts · Museum – Make a save once the room is clear, in case Tess moves on early. Wait near the broken window on the left, not too close and without climbing it, until she leans out and the prompt shows. Hear her out.

Before you go inside

Take Firefly Orders before the gate, and the Melinda Davidson pendant in the gazebo before the Capitol steps. Going in starts a long scene, and you leave in a hurry.

The Outskirts · The Capitol Building – Push the container to the gate and climb over, then wade through the flooded plaza. Short of the Capitol steps, go left into the gazebo. It is on the floor by a column, and the prompt shows only when you are almost on it.

The Outskirts · The Capitol Building – Go up the stairs on the left, crouch past the balcony and jump the hole in the wall to the next building, where the Hunting Rifle is on the body between two doors. Strangle the soldiers one by one as they come through the rooms, using the central table as cover. Then take the archway, go down the stairs and drop into Tower Hall.

The Outskirts · The Capitol Building – Pick off the guards from the back left doorway onward, then go through the centre doorway and along the corridor to the table on the left. In the guarded room, stay crouched along the left wall to the exit, and strangle the guard there if he blocks it.

If not, from the corpse, drop into the water on the left, swim down the flooded stairs and along the tunnel to the dead end, and enter the room on the left. It is on a shelf, and the dark makes it hard to see.

Have the Smuggler Note and the Shiyao Jiang pendant first. The ladder she drops leads to the stairs that end the chapter.

About this guide

One run of the story and one of Left Behind, on any difficulty: no trophy depends on it. The story is one way, so take each pickup before you move on. After the credits, Chapter Select clears anything its menu shows as short, but take the Workbench Tools on the first run: the menu doesn't show them, and one taken on a replay may not count.
