Run 1, Chapter XIV: The Witch Hunts

A chapter played in the Umbran Armor: the streets and a square, a Muspelheim in the mech, a bridge, and three bosses in a row.

You spend this whole chapter inside the Umbran Armor, a huge mech that steers like Bayonetta but bigger and slower, with the witch at your side in a second one. Everything to collect comes early: an Echo and a Witch Heart on the opening street, a Moon Pearl after the square, and a Muspelheim, still played in the mech, beside the big door. Past the bridge, three bosses follow one after another to the end of the chapter. No chapter-clear Umbran Tear fires here: the next one comes when Chapter XV ends.

Fighting in the Umbran Armor

In this chapter the armor hits about two and a half times harder than it does anywhere else, and Umbran Climax doubles that again. Punches come in a three-hit string and kicks in a two-hit one, and they don't chain into longer combos; there is no Dodge Offset either. Hold the button on the third punch to fire both arm guns at once, punch in mid-air for a heavy slam that hits everything near the landing, and repeat aerial punches or kicks just as you land for steady damage.

Broken Witch Heart: coffin by the ruined houseUpgrade
Location
Chapter XIV · Before Verse 1 – From the Echo, cross to the left side of the street. Just before it opens out into the big square, a Resting Place coffin stands in front of a ruined house on your left; smash it before you walk into the square, where the first fight starts.
Summary
A quarter of a Witch Heart, which adds to your health bar.

Armor: first street fightQuest step
Location
Chapter XIV · Verse 1 – Walk on from the coffin into the big square and the fight begins. Every blow from the armor staggers what it hits, so stay on one angel at a time; the three-punch string with the held third punch kills fastest.
Summary
Verse 1: the first fight in the mech, against a crowd of big angels in the square.

Location
Chapter XIV · Verse 2 – Head for the narrow street at the far end of the square; the verse starts on the way. Flying angels shoot down at you: dodge their fire, or knock them out of the air with ordinary gunfire, and keep going to the courtyard at the end. There an Urbane, a Gravitas and a big Beloved come for you; take them one at a time.
Summary
Verse 2: a run down a narrow street under fire from above, then three tough angels in a courtyard.

Broken Moon Pearl: chest up the courtyard stepsUpgrade
Location
Chapter XIV · After Verse 2 – When the courtyard fight is over, stand where you came in and look left: a short flight of steps on that side of the courtyard leads up to a Resting Place. Break it before you leave.
Summary
Half a Moon Pearl, which adds to your magic gauge, in a Resting Place at the top of a few steps.

Muspelheim: right of the stairs before the big doorCollectible
Location
Chapter XIV · Verse 3 – Leave the courtyard by the street straight ahead until it ends at stairs and a large door; the portal is in plain sight to the right of the stairs, and you keep the mech inside. The clock starts at just 10 seconds and each kill buys more: Applauds and Grace & Glory come first, then a lava-covered Beloved who takes far more hits. Finish the small angels as fast as you can to bank time for him, and use Umbran Climax once your magic is full.
Summary
Verse 3, a Muspelheim fought in the Umbran Armor where every kill adds to a timer. Clearing it pays a Broken Moon Pearl.

Before you open the big door

Take the Moon Pearl at the courtyard steps and the portal beside the door first. Past the door there is nothing more to pick up: the bridge fight comes next, and after it the last three fights run on to the end of the chapter. If you miss something, replay the chapter from Chapter Select after the story.
