Run 1, Chapter XIII: Vigrid, City of Déjà Vu

The first building's hidden fight, the fountain garden and its portal, the caves and the lava tunnel with a one-try crow, and the great hall with the second portal.

This chapter runs from a first building out through a fountain garden, then down through underground caves and a lava tunnel to a great hall. Walls built of loose blocks open when you strike them, and crystal statues give you the Witch Time you need to cross water and lava. Two Muspelheim portals and one hidden fight lie off the path, and one crow allows a single try, so read the warning before the lava bridge. Start the Alruna Tear here: it runs on into later chapters. No chapter-clear Umbran Tear fires at the end of this chapter: the next one comes when Chapter XV ends.

Chapter start: Vigrid hallsArea
Location
Chapter XIII · Chapter start – The chapter opens by itself once Chapter XII's results are over. Push open the door ahead: Rodin's red portal stands in the hall beyond it, should you want the shop.
Summary
Where Chapter Select starts Chapter XIII. The game saves at each verse and chapter end, so there is nothing to do here.

Umbran Tear: Retribution of Thorns (50 Alruna slams)Achievement
Location
Chapter XIII · From the chapter start – Equip Alruna before the first fight. Its charged attack wraps the whips round one or two enemies, hoists them up and smashes them into the ground; each of those slams counts, and in Witch Time it catches almost anything, bosses included. Keep using it through the rest of the run: the Tear pops on its own once the count is reached, in whatever chapter that is, and Tag Climax doesn't count.
Summary
A Tear for catching enemies with the Alruna whips and slamming them down 50 times in Story Mode. It starts here and may take a few chapters.

Summary
A quarter of a Witch Heart in a Resting Place. Opening it also starts hidden Verse 1.

A quarter of a Witch Heart, lying on a small balcony in the first building.

Muspelheim: shrine by the fountain squareCollectible
Location
Chapter XIII · Verse 2 – From the crow, look left: a small stone pavilion, lit from inside, stands to the left of the fountain. Walk into it and the portal opens under your feet. Inside, one Applaud must fall within 22 seconds, so go at it straight away with your strongest combos.
Summary
Verse 2, a timed Muspelheim against a single angel. Clearing it pays a Broken Witch Heart.

One try at the lava-bridge crow

Next, a pair of crystal statues send you over a lava bridge in Witch Time, and an Umbran Crow perches at its far end. This crow does not come back: if your first grab fails, it flies off for good, and walking on past the broken bridge writes a checkpoint that keeps it lost for this pass of the chapter. If you miss it, stop where you are, quit to the title screen and choose Continue: you start again at the statues before the bridge and get another try. If you have already walked on, replay Chapter XIII from Chapter Select after the story to get it.

Umbran Crow: end of the lava bridgeCollectible

Chapter XIII · Verse 9 – Reach it before the bridge breaks. Walk on from the corridor into the next cave: the crystal statues stand on the left. Take up a statue's challenge and dodge its lightning, then race over the lava bridge in the Witch Time it gives you, straight for the crow at the far end. If the bridge goes first and you land on the rocks in the lava, try for it from the rock nearest its broken end.
Summary
One of the 20 Umbran Crows, each worth one Umbran Tear of Blood. It allows only one try.

Once its health is gone, mash the prompt to push it back, then in the frozen time that follows run up its body and head and jump across to the far side.

Chapter XIII · Verse 10 – Climb back to the witch and follow her on to the shaky remains of a bridge (Rodin's red portal stands along the way), then jump from piece to piece across them to the next open area, where the twins attack. Muspelheim: behind the corridor fenceCollectible
Location
Chapter XIII · Verse 11 – Go through the big door into a long, gold-lit corridor with barred fences down both sides. Near its far end, by the archway into the next room, the bars stop on the right: slip through there behind the fence and walk back about halfway, by some vases, until the portal appears. Inside you start with an angel bow, a staff and a pair of claws, and fresh weapons come only once those three are used up; an Applaud archer and Decorations come first, then a Fearless with more Decorations.
Summary
Verse 11, a Muspelheim where only the enemies' own weapons do damage. Clearing it pays a Broken Witch Heart.

Beloved with two axesBoss
Location
Chapter XIII · Verse 12 – Leave the corridor through the archway into the last room, the one with the crescent-moon table, and the Beloved attacks. Its swings are slow and easy to dodge for Witch Time; its defence is high, but it has only one health bar. Keep hitting the pulsing red node on its upper back to stun it, use the two-button prompt for a joint attack with the witch while it is down, and mash the last prompt to finish it.
Summary
Verse 12: the Beloved returns, coated in lava, with an axe in each hand. Beating it ends Chapter XIII.
