Hunter's Dream

Your hub between hunts: pick a starting kit, and come back here to level up, buy, and upgrade.

You first arrive here after lighting the clinic lamp or dying in the opening street. The Messengers in the garden hand out the starting weapons; everything else you see here unlocks as you play.

Why you can lose it
She can be sent anywhere until the Blood Moon rises; after Rom her window gives no response. One early trophy guide puts the cutoff at Vicar Amelia, which the wikis do not support, but sending her now costs nothing.
Point of no return

Summary
Her window is at the dead end on the far left of the foggy alley behind the Hunter Chief Emblem gate. The Hunter's Nightmare

The Old Hunters begins here, at about level 70 to 80. Clear the Nightmare's streets and blood river, then face Ludwig.

This guide enters the DLC after the Upper Cathedral Ward and before the Nightmare of Mensis. Sources suggest level 65 or more at the very least, and 75 to 85 for a comfortable first visit.

Why you can lose it
Only cycle 1 takes this outcome in this guide's plan (NG+ and NG++ choose the other branch), so it is gone once Gehrman ends cycle 1.
Point of no return
Speaking to Gehrman under the great tree ends cycle 1 whatever you answer. Before you do, finish the outcomes only this cycle takes: the Young Girl's ribbons, Djura spared, Eileen's last hunt and the Hunter rune, Alfred's whole quest with Radiance and the Queen's return, Patches' rune, and Simon's and Adeline's stories with Milkweed and the Accursed Brew.
Summary
He waits at the first shortcut back to the first lamp. Choose 'Nightmares are fascinating' to move his story on. Never attack him in this cycle.

Chalice Dungeons: The Path to Queen Yharnam

The fixed Pthumerian chalices lead down to Queen Yharnam, one of the platinum's gold trophies. Chalice progress is not tied to a cycle, so do these whenever you like.

Rituals are performed at the altar in the Hunter's Dream, and each new dungeon gets its own headstone. Chalice enemies do not get stronger in NG+, and your progress carries over between cycles.

Collect these before the deep rituals

The last ritual on this path needs the Living String from the Brain of Mensis (section 20) and Red Jelly (two on the Lecture Building's first floor).

Glyphs are community-posted and expire when unused; test before relying on one. In the glyph notes, F, R and C mean the Fetid, Rotted and Cursed rites, s/S means Sinister, and L1 to L4 are the layers. Three cycles, or one with backups

The three endings exclude each other, so the platinum takes three playthroughs. Backing up your save before Gehrman (cloud or USB) and restoring it lets one playthrough cover all three.

About this guide

Expect a demanding action game where bosses take practice, and plan for three playthroughs plus deep Chalice Dungeons that are harder than the main story.
